Our 'Devised & Scripted' performances give our 6.2 A Level Theatre Studies students a final wonderful opportunity to share the many years of training, growth and refinement that have helped them hone their craft.
This year's performances from our talented 6.2s truly captivated their audiences.
Henry, one of our 6.1 students agreed:
"The 6.2 devised pieces left me in awe. Being a Drama student, I will be in the exact same position as the performers this time next year - and seeing the incredible standard of work has only further excited me. Being entirely non-naturalistic, the physicality, lighting, sound, and dialogue was incredibly striking and left an impression on me well after I left the theatre.
Every member of every group so completely embodied their roles that they were almost unrecognisable. Seeing some of the cast members around the next day left me thinking “could this be the person I saw on stage last night?”. Not to mention the fact that the pieces completely contrasted with each other, so made each 15-minute play feel entirely unique. The audience was hooked throughout - from Robert Wilson to Alecky Blythe, Gecko to Berkoff. The technical skill on show, taking us from empathetic and compassionate one minute, and then roaring with laughter the next, was unbelievable."
Inigo, another one of our 6.1 Theatre Studies students, had this to say:
"What a real pleasure. Not only was watching the scripted pieces a brilliant insight into what my A Level will entail, but it was engaging and fun as well. I saw a range of contemporary pieces performed in a naturalistic style, ranging from the sinister comedy of After the End to the authentic melancholy of Constellations. I’m very proud of what my friends in the year above accomplished. Seeing what the other Drama students and I will be up to next year was really interesting and I’m excited to take part myself in the future. I could really tell how much hard work had gone into the pieces and was really impressed by the standard of work that I got to see and enjoy."
A parent who watched the performances summed the experience up beautifully:
"A truly magical evening. Each student seemed to up their game. Bedales productions have always set a high bar but this was something special. It felt like the various practitioner styles unlocked previously hidden talents from each and every actor/ creator. Kudos to everyone involved!"
We always have a varied and exciting schedule of performances and shows at Bedales, from students as well as external organisations and speakers. You can find out more and book tickets HERE.
