On 31 January, 6.1 students taking creative subjects had the chance to visit Chichester Festival Theatre for Creative Industries Career Day. There was something for everyone, from lighting and costume design to acting masterclasses and Q&As with casting directors. A panel discussion also gave us the opportunity to ask questions to both on-stage performers and behind-the-scenes professionals who make it all happen.

The day was very insightful, with stalls showcasing aspects of the industry that we might not have previously considered. It highlighted the breadth of opportunities within the creative sector and showed that, whatever your interests, there is a career that matches them. After a day of asking questions and taking notes, we left with not only a fun little tote bag to remember the day, but also a clearer understanding of the industry and fresh excitement for our future careers.

Holly reflected: “I found the panel discussion incredibly inspiring and insightful, as it gave me a deeper understanding of the theatre world. The speakers shared their career experiences in a clear and engaging way, highlighting the importance of being proactive in the industry and actively creating opportunities for yourself.”

Adam said: “I found the speakers and workshops really useful and took away a plethora of skills which I hope I will be able to use in future.”

Iggy commented: “We heard from a range of successful people, from DJs to events managers to public speakers. We learned important life skills, like how to speak to a group and develop confidence, as well as how to secure work experience. I found the day hugely beneficial and it made me feel excited for my future and where my career will take me.”

Thank you to everyone who made this experience possible. It was a fantastic way to explore options and ideas, especially within such a tough industry, and help us shape the path for our future.
