Bedales, in partnership with TES, hosted a conference with the aim of giving current and aspiring school leaders the tools and knowledge to be innovative and creative in how they run a school and the confidence to maintain their individuality. Speakers included: Sir Michael Wilshaw, chief inspector and Head of Ofsted; Barbara Oakley, Professor of Engineering at Oakland University, Michigan and creator of the world’s largest MOOC (Massive Online Open Course); Danielle Harlan, founder and CEO at the Center for Advancing Leadership and Human Potential; Bill Lucas, creator of the Expansive Education Network, one of the biggest teacher researcher groups in the world, and Professor of Learning at the University of Winchester; Mike Fairclough, Headteacher, West Rise Junior School, Eastbourne, East Sussex - TES primary school of the year; Geoff Barton, Headteacher, King Edward VI School, Bury St Edmunds, writer on English and literacy, and TES contributor on education and leadership; Keith Budge, Headmaster, Bedales Schools, the first UK head to introduce in a school its own alternative to GCSE; Rob Walden, former teacher, now international education consultant, who has developed a unique philosophy on, and strategies for, developing leadership; Lord Jim Knight, chief education adviser to TES Global, and a former minister of state for schools; and Ann Mroz, TES Editor.
