In Groups 1-3 (Years 4-6), students are usually taught English and Humanities by their class teacher and much is explored through this topic work, which makes it more interesting and relevant. There is specialist teaching in Maths, Science, Art, Design, Music, Physical Education, Drama, French, Spanish and Dance.
We encourage students to be aware of and care for their environment. Students have weekly double Outdoor Work lessons that build on a range of forest skills and outdoor learning.
The environment is one of letting children 'be children' as well as allowing them to be individuals and developing them into independent learners
Bedales Prep parent
Students are introduced to independent study through 'Greens', timetabled lessons where they can complete prep in the library or pursue other activities such as further academic studies (including additional Modern Languages, extra Maths or English), the arts (such as individual instrumental or vocal lessons and LAMDA classes) or sport (for example, tennis).
In the Summer term, all year groups go away on residential camps for 'Camps Week', staying under canvas, in youth hostels or study centres. All trips complement the curriculum and introduce pupils to new situations and challenges.
