Last Saturday Block 3 and 6.2 students got up at 6.15am for their annual walk to the Poet’s Stone – the memorial to WW1 poet Edward Thomas in the hangers above Steep. With us were a good number of staff and several dogs, and the combination of old and young made for good company as we walked through spectacular countryside at the best time of the day. Conversation flagged as the climb steepened but everyone made it to the top and we were rewarded by the breathtaking view and a well-earned breakfast. The weather was perfect for the occasion and the abundance of spring flowers and birdsong added to the general feeling of euphoria. Before long we were making our way back for the first lesson of the day but all agreed that the experience was well worth the effort and a good reminder of the fact that we live in such beautiful surroundings.
