Tom Clowes: Climb to the SE Ridge on Everest

Tom comes to Bedales to provide an inspirational account of his successful climb on the SE Ridge on Everest in 2006, where he and his brother became the first British brothers to stand on the summit together. He recalls how his team pulled together in this wild and hostile environment; the feelings when they heard that three Sherpas had been killed in the notoriously treacherous ice fall above base camp; how two members returned from the summit with badly frostbitten toes in bitterly cold temperatures; and the huge emotions to finally stand on top of the world! Tom speaks with enormous passion and enthusiasm, not just on the climb but also about the remote Sherpa people living in this harsh environment high in the hills.
