“The stars are aligned for decisive action” – Will Goldsmith on the Government’s education review
Will Goldsmith has called for the Government to take heed of the growing calls for decisive action as a team of experts considers the evidence in its Review of Curriculum and Assessment.
In an article in School Management Plus, Will highlighted the call by seven former Education Secretaries for a move away from an overly exam-based system to a forward-looking education which includes character, creative thinking and problem solving skills.
Will highlighted the balanced approach in high-performing Estonia which puts “creative and other ‘core’ subjects on an equal footing”. He also describes how the School’s own Bedales Assessed Courses (BACs) “stretch and challenge” students, providing them with a level of responsibility not normally afforded to such young people.” The School is further expanding its BAC offer with new courses under development in sciences and languages.
