Over the last few weeks, Bedales 18 Jacob ewes have given birth to 32 lambs, including two sets of triplets and 11 sets of twins, totalling 18 lamb ewes and 14 lamb rams. Students from all year groups have been getting a taste of farm life, getting up early to help Head of Outdoor Work, Peter Coates, by letting the new born lambs out in to the field, feeding them and cleaning out their pens, and then bringing them back in at night. When the lambs are older some will be sold as pedigree sheep to other flocks, some will be sold as ‘lawnmowers’, and some will be kept to replenish Bedales own flock. At the end of May the flock will be shorn and the wool spun and woven into throws and scarves.
