On 18 April lambing officially started for our Jacob sheep with a set of triplets; two lamb rams and a lamb ewe. The next two weeks saw the arrival of 21 more lambs- good timing as our students had just returned from their Easter holidays and, after a well earned rest, were eager to get involved with the early morning lambing routine. This mainly involved checking for any new arrivals in the labour field and bringing them into the barn, feeding, tagging, castrating and tailing the day old lambs and turning them out into the maternity field. Overall, this year we had two sets of triplets, eight sets of twins and four singles. The lambing experience has given students the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the responsibilities and commitment necessary at such a crucial time in the farming calendar. Thank you to all of those who came and helped.
