We know that young people’s emotional health and wellbeing plays a crucial role in their learning, personal development, and future mental and physical health. At Bedales, pastoral care isn’t an isolated aspect of school life – it shapes every student’s experience, whether they're a day student or a boarder.

At the heart of our approach to pastoral care is our Life Skills & Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) programme, which aims to nurture confident, compassionate young people who have the knowledge and ethical framework to make sound decisions both now and in the future.

All students – from Block 3 (Year 9) to 6.2 (Year 13) – attend timetabled Life Skills lessons, which are thematic and holistic in their approach, while incorporating research from the academic disciplines of psychology and sociology.
