The Faculty of Science at Bedales Senior brings together Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Psychology

Watch the video below to see how our progressive approach to science education encourages students to develop important transferrable skills that will enable them to thrive as they progress through the School, at university and beyond.

Taught by subject specialists with backgrounds in academia and industry, our IGCSE and A Level courses in Physics, Chemistry and Biology and Psychology A Level provide students with a diverse knowledge of scientific concepts and their real-world applications. Drawing upon a wealth of varied expertise, our faculty staff are able to support students in pursuing individual interests in specific fields and careers, nurturing their passions and fostering a genuine love of learning.

Across the Sciences, our student-centred teaching philosophy promotes curiosity, inquiry and the development of creative, critical thinking skills that allow students to succeed in the 21st century. We place emphasis on practical work and building up problem-solving abilities, frequently using the natural biodiversity of the Bedales estate in lessons to enrich understanding beyond the classroom. Students are empowered to take their learning further, with vast opportunities for scientific exploration through co-curricular activities, external lectures, field trips and the Sixth Form Enrichment Programme

Introduction of BACs in the Sciences

We are currently developing new BAC courses in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with teaching due to begin in September 2027.

An alternative to exam-only GCSEs and recognised by UCAS, the new Science BACs will incorporate a broader range of assessment methods including presentations, real world projects and formally assessed practical work to prepare students for the challenges of A Levels and university study,

In formulating the courses, we’re cross referencing our work with existing GCSE and international qualifications and working with external parties including the Royal Society of Chemistry to create an innovative, academically rigorous curriculum.
