Bedales Pre-prep & Nursery appoints new Head

Bedales Pre-prep & Nursery, Dunannie has announced its new Head from February 2021 will be Fiona Read, who is currently Head of the Primary School at the British School in Tokyo.

Fiona was educated at Clayesmore School, Dorset and Kingston University where she graduated in English and Drama Education. She also holds a postgraduate degree in Psychology from the Open University. Fiona started her teaching career at infant level, and then moved into international prep and primary school roles in Indonesia, France and Singapore prior to moving to Japan.

Fiona is a linguist speaking Italian, French, Spanish and Bahasa Indonesian. She enjoys the outdoors and has coached a range of sports, and also has a love of photography, theatre and community service.

Fiona Read commented:

“I strongly believe in the potential of every child so I am delighted to be joining Dunannie which shares this belief and offers children such a wide range of innovative learning opportunities. I am very much looking forward to working with colleagues to help give Dunannie children the strongest foundation on which to build their education.”

Head of the Bedales Schools, Magnus Bashaarat, stated: 

“I am delighted we have appointed Fiona Read following a demanding and protracted interview process due to travel restrictions. With a strong track record and wide range of experiences, Fiona quickly demonstrated a strong understanding of our distinctive ethos. We are very much looking forward to working with Fiona from February when she starts from the second half of the spring term.”

Previous Head Victoria Homewood left Dunannie at the end of the Summer Term 2019, and Deputy Sharon Rose has been overseeing day to day running in the interim with the support of Colin Baty, Head of Bedales Prep, Dunhurst.
