Bedales students' film shortlisted for 10 Shot Film Award
A short film created by Bedales Senior School students has been shortlisted in the 10 Shot Film Awards, hosted by Young Film Academy, celebrating filmmaking excellence in UK schools.
The Vial, produced by students Edward de La Mare, Louis Hardy, Rex Stilwell, Iona Reid, George Watson, Kasra Ahsani, Jethro Garton, Lolo Gaio, Verity Burford-Taylor and Cara Powell with One Day Film School in July 2024, is one of only 10 student-led films shortlisted in the Years 10-12 category.
The film, chosen as the standout film during One Day Film School’s visit to Bedales in the Summer term, was shortlisted by a panel of Young Film Academy experts from over 1,000 films created at 125 schools across the UK.
Voting is now open until 5pm on Friday 29 November.
Winners will be announced on Monday 2 December on the One Day Film School website.
One Day Film School visits Bedales every year to give students a hands-on introduction to filmmaking. Over the course of a single day, students learn skills in screenwriting, fight choreography, film history, camerawork and editing, culminating in the production of short films in small groups. This year, the workshop formed part of Bedales' Sixth Form induction for the first time, bringing together existing Block 5 (Year 11) students and incoming 6.1 (Year 12) students to work collaboratively and build meaningful connections while having fun and learning new skills.
The students’ success follows in the footsteps of The Lost Soul, another Bedales student production, which was ‘Highly Commended’ in the Years 10-12 category at last year’s 10 Shot Film Awards.
Launched in 2023, the 10 Shot Film Awards showcase the best two-minute films produced by groups of students at schools in the UK. Recognising originality combined with technical filmmaking skills, the awards aim to provide a platform to showcase emerging talent and encourage young people to pursue a career in the film industry.
Michelle Cooke, Head of Lower School at Bedales Senior, commented: "We are delighted to see the creative filmmaking skills of Bedales students recognised once again in the 10 Shot Film Awards. Thank you to One Day Film School for giving our students such an inspiring, hands-on introduction to the world of filmmaking each year."
