We were delighted to host a visit from the Twentieth Century Society on 3 August led by Alastair Langlands (Bedales teacher, 1973-2001) and Otto Saumarez Smith (Old Bedalian, 2005), lecturer in architectural history at the University of Warwick. The Society campaigns to save outstanding buildings and design that have shaped the British landscape since 1914.

Highlight of the visit included Ernest Gimson’s arts and crafts Grade 1 listed masterpiece Memorial Library of 1921 and the Lupton Hall

The tour of the School also included the Art and Design building (2016) by Feilden Clegg Bradley, and the Bedales Theatre (1996) by Hampshire County Architects.

The event marked the publication of Alastair Langlands' new book The Buildings of Bedales and the Genius of Gimson, available to order here.
