Celebrating Science Week
British Science Week is a 10-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths that took place between 11-20 March.
As a culmination of Science Week, Dunhurst invited parents with careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to come in to school to talk about what they do and inspire our Blocks' (Year 7-8) pupils. Talks included the role of financing in major projects, the impacts and limitations of artificial intelligence (AI), app development, developing solar powered infrastructure across Nigeria and the use of robots in large industrial and scientific applications.
At the end of Science Week, Block 2 (Year 8) were visited by David from Ross Robotics, which provides modular, multi-mission, resilient robots for the nuclear, security, inspection and maintenance, utilities and construction industries. Pupils learned about the tough environments robots work in and what it is that makes a robot tick internally. A truly fascinating talk which was really inspiring to so many of our future roboteers!
At Dunannie, children were visited by Professor Bubbleworks, who gave inspiring workshops demonstrating the magic world of bubbles.
As always, pupils engaged well with the activities and asked some fascinating questions - and it was a pleasure to hear visitors comment that they were so engaged and interested.
