Artwork created by three pupils from Bedales Prep, Dunhurst has been selected to feature in the Royal Academy (RA) Young Artists’ Summer Show online exhibition.

A charcoal drawing of a trumpeter by Block 2 (Year 8) pupil Charlie Clarke and a self-portrait of Block 1 (Year 7) pupil Wulfie Smith Pink playing guitar in a stadium were among the pieces selected for the exhibition, as well as a piece of collaborative artwork by Group 3 (Year 6) in their entirety – an endangered British wildlife installation crafted from old books and ceramic sculptures.

The pupils’ work was selected from over 17,000 entries by a panel of art experts and is set to go on display on the Young Artists’ Summer Show website on 12 July. Dunhurst’s achievement in the competition represents a second consecutive year of success in what is only the Young Artists’ Summer Show second year – last year, artwork by four Dunhurst pupils was selected to go on display at the debut show.

Head of Dunhurst Colin Baty said: “The strength of Art and Design at Bedales Prep, Dunhurst continues to shine through. The department has very inspiring teachers who bring the pupils outside their comfort zone time and time again with such wonderful results. I am so very proud of all the children and those selected to exhibit.”

Dunhurst’s Head of Art and Design Susan McFarlane added: “I’m absolutely delighted for the pupils chosen, they are flying the flag for Bedales Prep. I think the RA had a very difficult task in making selections from the landslide of entries this year. They were quick to point out that they valued each and every entry and they encouraged all those entered to keep being creative… which is exactly what we are doing at Dunhurst!"
